Since 2008, WHISH has been a valued part of the Whitby and Esk Valley community. We began as a small voluntary group of parents supporting families of children with hidden impairments and, as our services grew, we became a registered charity in 2015.

Today, WHISH continues to support local children, young people and their families—but we couldn't do it alone. Our work is made possible through the support and collaboration of a wide range of partners, businesses, organisations and volunteers who share our commitment to creating an inclusive community.

We are proud to work alongside:

Town and County Councils, who provide grants, training, advice and support that help us develop our services and improve outcomes for local families.
The NHS, working with a network of healthcare professionals, ensures families can access the guidance, information and support they need.
Service clubs and charitable organisations, including Rotary Clubs, the Buffaloes and the Freemasons, generously provide funding, volunteers and help raise awareness of the work we do.
Volunteers, whose support is invaluable. From individuals taking on sponsored challenges such as fun runs, to corporate teams like Barratt Homes volunteering their time and skills to refurbish our facilities, every contribution makes a real difference.
Whitby Community Alliance, where local charities and not-for-profit organisations work together on projects and services that strengthen our community.

These partnerships are at the heart of WHISH. By working together, we are able to reach more families, provide more opportunities for children and young people with hidden impairments and continue building a stronger, more supportive community for everyone.

FEAST
During the Easter and Summer school holidays, WHISH delivers FEAST sessions, providing free holiday activities and healthy meals for children eligible for free school meals and those with additional needs.

More than 50 local children take part each year, giving parents and carers peace of mind that their children are safe, supported and enjoying enriching activities.

Building on our previous success, WHISH continues to deliver high-quality provision following our Flying High Award, recognising us as one of North Yorkshire's leading FEAST providers.

Household support fund
The rising cost of living continues to place significant pressure on many families, particularly those caring for children with hidden impairments and disabilities, who often face additional expenses such as specialist diets, personal care products and household essentials.

Through funding from the Government's Food Support Fund, administered by North Yorkshire Council, WHISH provided practical support to local families, including food shares, fruit and vegetable boxes, personal and household essentials and cooking sessions.
