A message from one of our Youth Workers
On Friday, May 30th, I had the privilege of taking a group of our young members to East Barnby Activity Centre for a day of outdoor adventure and personal growth. The day was originally planned to include orienteering in the morning and raft-building in the afternoon. However, due to weather conditions, the raft-building was replaced with an exhilarating session of beck scrambling.

Ten young people took part, aged between 7 and 14. For some, this was their first away-day experience—and what a challenging and rewarding one it turned out to be.

As a Youth Leader, I often witness the positive impact these kinds of activities have on young people. This trip, in particular, stood out. I didn’t get the chance to speak with every parent afterward, so I wanted to take a moment to share some reflections here.

We were fortunate to have two outstanding instructors from East Barnby who guided and kept us safe throughout. Managing a group with such a wide range of ages and personalities can be no small task, but the way everyone pulled together was inspiring.

Each young person demonstrated incredible character—courage, resilience, determination, empathy, and teamwork were on full display. The older ones looked out for the younger ones, and the younger ones drew strength and inspiration from their peers. Even those who needed a break during a challenge came back with sleeves rolled up, ready to give it another shot.

There are countless individual moments I could highlight, but they all add up to one powerful message: watching strong individual personalities come together as a united team is a true privilege.

To all who took part—thank you and very well done. You made this a truly special day.
