WHISH has been part of the Whitby & Esk Valley community since 2008, where we started as a voluntary group, and then we became a registered charity in 2015.
WHISH helps local children and families – but we don’t do it alone ………………. we work in partnership with a wide range of people, businesses and organisations, for example:
Town and County Council – grants, training, advice, education and support for families.
The NHS - a network of professionals to support WHISH families
Service and charitable organisations - such as Rotary Clubs, Buffaloes, Masons. Providing funds, volunteers and spreading the word.
Volunteers - from an individual doing a Fun Run and giving the sponsorship to WHISH, to national organisations like Barratt Homes allowing a team of their staff to help refurbish a room at WHISH.
Whitby Community Alliance – charities and non-profit organisations working together on joint projects and services for benefit of the local community.
WIN –Networking Whitby – a group of local businesses and entrepreneurs who support WHISH.

FEAST
During the school Easter and Summer holidays we ran FEAST – a national scheme, funded via North Yorkshire Council, to support children eligible for free school meals (or with other needs) to access holiday activities and healthy meals.
Over 50 local children took part in FEAST at WHISH, enabling parents to work knowing their children were well cared for.
Out of the 70+ FEAST providers in North Yorkshire, WHISH were awarded a “Flying High Award“ for outstanding provision and supporting families to thrive.

Household support fund
The “cost of living crisis” hasn’t stopped, prices are still increasing and many families are struggling. Households which have children with impairments and disabilities can often have increased costs due to a range of issues – dietary requirements, personal hygiene issues, increased need for nappies etc.
WHISH was successful in getting a grant from the Food Support Fund to help local households with the provision of food, personal and household essentials. It is funded with money from the Government, run through North Yorkshire Council.
The menu of support included food share, fruit & veg boxes, personal and household essentials, cooking sessions.
Many of the activities will continue after the scheme ends in October, e.g. food share, garden, cooking sessions.
